selecting symbols

Symbols are props that will help set the stage for the ceremony.  The props are important to each stage:

   > creating the ceremonial space

   > the "before" situation

   > the transition

   > the "after" situation

   > the party

Everyday items can easily be used to symbolize any feature of the person's transition.  I am adept at finding symbolic meaning, and together we'll choose which items will work for you and the person being honored.

finding symbolic activities

These activities represent the change the person is facing and are characterized by what it means to the person, how it feels to them.

For example, if retiring feels like shedding shackles or stepping out of bondage, a symbolic activity could be climbing out of a box or tearing one's way out of being wrapped head to toe in adding machine tape.

I will help you find symbolic actions that are right for the person being honored.

SERVICES:  What I can do for you

clarification

What exactly is the change or transition being supported?  The person is going from what situation, to what?

What does this change mean to the person?  What are their hopes, and what are their fears?

If this ceremony is for your child, what are your hopes and fears about it?

Which people will be involved in the ceremony itself?  How can they help with the process of support and acknowledgment?

Inspiration

What are the fears that are present with regard to this change in life circumstance?  We will transform them into positives for the ceremony.

What are the strengths the person has that will help them succeed?

What are the salient features of the situation that is being left behind?  What should be cast away, and what should be retained?

I'll help you find the most inspiring aspects relevant to your rite of passage.
